Szjerdene (pronounced JhurDEEN) is an artist that has quietly commanded the attention of music lovers, journalists and creatives. Having already penned collaborations with leading electronic producers worldwide such as Robin Hannibal, Lapalux, Eric Lau, Slugabed, Glen Nicholls and most recently – one of the scenes most pioneering figures, Simon Green, AKA Bonobo – Szjerdene is firmly imprinting on her own journey of what is cited to be a very long and successful career.
In 2013 Szjerdene aligned with Ninja Tune for the eagerly anticipated release of ‘Patchwork: The EP’. Throughout this short four-song offering Szjerdene shows her spectrum of abilities in songwriting and arranging which are breathtakingly inviting. With her unique mix of soul and folk inflected vocals combined with electronic leftfield sounds, Szjerdene presents a grounded understanding of her craft. Aptly named ‘Patchwork’, each song displays a different quality – the common feature being stories told with unique melodies. Szjerdene’s adroit songwriting and emotionally evocative vocal style – infusing intimate folk reminiscent of Joni Mitchell with lilting and subtly atmospheric pop flourishes – is still evolving.
2013 also brought the release of her collaboration with Bonobo on both ‘The North Borders’ Album and Tour. Since the album’s release, Szjerdene has appeared as the guest vocalist to play over 175 shows across three continents and 30 countries, wowing audiences with her hypnotic stage presence and vocal prowess. She performed sold out shows at The Sydney Opera House, Paradiso and Brixton Academy.
2014 has seen her join Bonobo at the iconic Coachella festival, Sonar, Glastonbury and many more. This period of extensive touring will come to a breathtaking close with her largest show to date at London’s Alexandra Palace on 28th November.
2015 is set to be another career milestone for Szjerdene. Currently writing her second EP which is set to be released in the Summer, expect to be formally reintroduced to a humble yet incredible vocal talent and persona that is en route to fulfilling her undeniable potential.
