Ebony Joi has shined since she was a tiny toddler singing her first solo at the age of two. Influenced by classic vocalists like Sarah Vaughn, Anita Baker and Prince her voice is smooth, sultry and pure. She showcases a playful side in her music while hitting every note flawlessly.
Ebony, a singer/songwriter from North Philadelphia was always in tow with her Mother to gigs, rehearsals and the studio. The music seemed to be running through her veins.
Immersed in the music education culture of Philadelphia, Ebony performed at every show in school,attended Freedom Theater for drama and connected with critically acclaimed keyboardist Donald Robinson for piano lessons. Robinson most famous for his work with Vanessa Williams and Rachelle Farrell helped Ebony continue to hone her musicianship.
After graduating from the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts, Ebony went on to study at the prestigious Berklee College of Music and finished with a degree in professional music.
Her hard work and dedication to her craft led her to the opportunity to sing background with GRAMMY-nominated recording artist Bilal.
In the midst of supporting Bilal, Ebony has continued to develop her own artistry by teaming up with producer Steve Mckie; joining the company of Jill Scott, Estelle and Kindred with whom Mckie has also worked. Her debut EP “Ace of Spades” has been released in the fall of 2013 under Mckie Beats Production.
In a recent interview about the project, Ebony stated. “It’s not your typical radio safe project; it’s an honest, real musician at heart with enough talent and hustle to stand up with the best!”
