We just featured José James who also did a beautiful duet with Emily King – so featuring the oh so talented Miss King was only the logical consequence. The Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter from Manhattan’s Lower East Side had to get her own NYCROPHONE spot!
Her debut album “East Side Story” earned her the Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Back then, still signed by J Records, she toured with the likes of John Legend and Floetry and opened for artists such as Nas, Alicia Keys, Chaka Khan and Miss Eryka Badu! However, 2008 Emily decided to continue her career independently and parted with her label.
In 2011 she released her follow-up EP “Seven” and went on a tour with Maroon 5 in Europe.
Miss King’s success story continued as she was awarded the Holly Prize in 2012 and went to the UK to open for Emeli Sande’s tour.
We’ve put together a special playlist for you, featuring her most recent single “Distance“, a few tracks from her “Seven” EP and debut album “East Side Story”. Enjoy her sweet mix of soul & pop with indie influences. If you ever get the chance to see her in concert – go do it! Totally worth your while!
